RPOC-NIR condemns CPP-NPA killings, pushes for creation of anti-rape committee

The Regional Peace and Order Council – Negros Island Region (RPOC-NIR) passed resolutions seeking the creation of an inter-agency committee on addressing rape Incidents in the NIR and condemning brutal killings by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army.

The resolutions were passed during the RPOC-NIR fourth quarter meeting presided by its chairperson, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, at Sierra Hotel in Dumaguete City, Thursday morning, Dec. 18.

Also approved during the meeting were resolutions for:
· Inclusion of the Liga ng mga Barangay NIR as member of the expanded RPOC;
· Commending Silay City as the first Drug-Free LGU declared by the Regional Oversight Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs ;
· Enjoining the Local Peace and Order Councils of Negros Island Region to strictly regulate the use of firecrackers;
· Requesting NIR local government units to procure breath analyzers and speed guns;
· The creation of an Inter-Agency Port Interdiction; and
· Endorsing a member of the RPOC to be a member of the Regional Police Appellate Board.

Lacson thanked all RPOC-NIR member agencies for implementing numerous peace and development initiatives throughout the year, which he said have contributed greatly to the stability and progress of the region.

“The accomplishments remind us that peace is not achieved by a single institution, but through collective, sustained and coordinated action” he said.

Negros Oriental Governor and Regional Development Council chairperson Manuel Sagarbarria also attended the RPOC-NIR meeting.*
