Rice was sold at P20 a kilo to 505 residents of Talisay City, Negros Occidental, on Friday, July 18, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.
Each buyer was allowed to buy 5 kilos at the Bigasan ng Bayan of the provincial government of Negros Occidental and the Federation of Irrigators Association Central Negros-Bago River Irrigation System held at the Talisay Public Plaza, he said.
Pedro Limpangog, FIACN-BRIS president, said their group sold 50 sacks of rice containing 2,500 kilos from Valladolid town.
In June, FIACN-BRIS sold P20 a kilo rice in Pulupandan town.
Limpangog said they will coordinate with the provincial government for the identification of the next area to sell the cheap rice.
He said the recently planted palay of about FIACN-BRIS farmer members in Bago City and Valladolid have been affected by the recent heavy rains.*
