PRO-NIR seizes P67.9M in drugs, P47.9M in smuggled cigarettes

The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region seized P67.9 million worth of suspected shabu and P47.9 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in the first month of PBGen. Romano Cardiño as acting regional director.

PRO-NIR said the accomplishments were recorded from May 8 to June 8 under its intensified SAFE NIR Program.

Police units across the region conducted 896 law enforcement operations during the period.

The anti-drug campaign resulted in 214 operations and the arrest of 238 drug personalities, including 26 high-value individuals, 187 street-level individuals, and 25 unlisted individuals.

Police seized about 10,136 grams of suspected shabu valued at P67,950,883.60.

PRO-NIR also conducted 69 anti-smuggling operations that led to the arrest of 22 individuals and the confiscation of smuggled cigarettes worth P47,964,213.20.

The regional police also arrested 371 wanted persons in 362 manhunt operations.

Of the arrested wanted persons, 76 were listed as most wanted and 295 were classified as other wanted persons.

PRO-NIR also conducted 109 illegal gambling operations that resulted in the arrest of 257 individuals and the confiscation of P45,374 in bet money and gambling paraphernalia.

Operations against loose firearms led to 113 operations, 24 arrests, and the confiscation of 61 firearms.

Police said 62 firearms were also voluntarily surrendered, while 10 others were deposited.

PRO-NIR also implemented 17 search warrants under Republic Act 10591, resulting in 14 arrests and the recovery of 20 loose firearms and 58 rounds of ammunition.

The implementation of 12 search warrants under Republic Act 9165 also led to the arrest of 17 drug personalities and the confiscation of 326.53 grams of suspected illegal drugs worth P2,053,404.

Cardiño said the SAFE NIR Program is aimed at sustaining visible, responsive, and dependable police service across the region.

He said PRO-NIR will continue strengthening law enforcement operations and the SAFE NIR Dial 911 initiative to improve emergency response and public safety in the Negros Island Region.*
