The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region recorded a 22.1 percent decline in focus crimes in 2025, with total cases dropping from 1,299 in 2024 to 1,012 last year.
PRO-NIR data showed that murder cases decreased from 260 to 209, physical injury cases fell from 201 to 123, rape cases dropped from 340 to 262, robbery declined from 98 to 74, and theft cases went down from 282 to 223.
Motorcycle carnapping cases also decreased slightly from 37 to 34 during the same period.
Police, however, noted an increase in homicide cases from 80 to 84 and motor vehicle carnapping cases from one to three.
Despite the reduced crime volume, PRO-NIR reported strong case resolution performance, with 682 cases solved and 295 cases cleared in 2025.
Authorities said only 35 focus crime cases remained unsolved.
PRO-NIR attributed the crime reduction to sustained anti-criminality operations, enhanced police visibility, improved intelligence coordination, and active community engagement.
Regional Director BGen. Arnold Thomas Ibay said police will continue strengthening crime-prevention efforts and investigations across the Negros Island Region.
PRO-NIR urged the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement efforts to sustain peace and order.*
