All personnel at the Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), including its top officials, underwent a surprise drug test at their headquarters in Bacolod City on Monday, July 21.
PRO-NIR spokesperson Lt. Col. Joem Malong said the test is part of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Internal Cleansing Program, aimed at ensuring that no personnel is using illegal drugs.
“One hundred percent of the RHQ personnel were tested, including the regional director, command group, and regional staff,” Malong told DIGICAST NEGROS.
While she did not disclose the total number of those tested due to police protocol, Malong said they are still waiting for the results from the Regional Forensics Unit.
“If any personnel yields a positive result, they may face an administrative case for grave misconduct, which could lead to dismissal from the service,” she added.
Malong also said that similar surprise drug tests will be conducted in all police stations and offices across the region in the coming weeks.*
