A price freeze on basic necessities and prime commodities is now in effect in Negros Occidental. Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said on Sunday, July 27.
The price freeze took immediate effect with the declaration placing Negros Occidental under a state of calamity on Thursday, he said.
The declaration states that the price freeze will be imposed across the province to prevent hoarding and unfair price increases of essential goods, he said.
Under Republic Act No. 7581 or the Price Act, as amended by RA 10623, prices of basic necessities are automatically frozen at their prevailing prices for 60 days once a state of calamity is declared in an area.
Negros Occidental was placed under a state of calamity due to the extensive damage caused by Tropical Storm “Crising” and the red-striped soft scale insect (RSSI) outbreak affecting sugarcane plantations, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Friday.*
