Pork prices increase by P7 per kilo: PVO

The Provincial Veterinary Office reported on Monday, March 10, that the average price of pork in Negros Occidental has increased by P7 per kilogram due to high demand from Panay traders.

Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana said the average pork price per kilo was at P366.56 on Feb. 24 and it increased to P373.50 or by P6.94 or P7 per kilo on March 3.

A PVO report showed that on March 3 the prices of pork averaged P400/kilo in San Carlos City, Pulupandan, Hinoba-an and San Enrique, P420/kilo in Bacolod City, with the lowest in Isabela at P320/kilo.

They are expecting the prices to increase further because of the peak demand for pork, especially from Panay traders, Lemana said.

Panay traders are buying pigs from Negros Occidental, Bohol and Mindanao because they do not have available supply, Lemana said.

Lemana said last month, Negros Occidental shipped out 5,000 heads of pigs to neighboring islands, including Panay.*
