Police log higher utilization of SAFE NIR 911 emergency hotline

The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has reported higher utilization of the SAFE NIR 911 hotline in calls for emergency response since its launch in the first week of June this year.

Data on Tuesday showed the PRO-NIR received 258 emergency calls through the platform from June 4 to July 4, resulting in the prompt police intervention and the arrest of 15 individuals.

From Jan. 1 to June 3, only 20 emergency 911 calls were received and three persons were arrested.

PRO-NIR supervises the respective police offices of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, and Bacolod City.

In a statement, PRO-NIR Director Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño said the SAFE 911 hotline program’s first-month accomplishment reflects the success of their efforts to raise public awareness while strengthening community access to police services.

“These results demonstrate our commitment to delivering prompt and reliable service to every citizen. We will continue to strengthen our response capabilities to ensure the safety and security of every resident of Negros and Siquijor,” he added.

In its report, the PRO-NIR said the increasing number of reports demonstrates that more residents are now aware that 911 is the official hotline for police emergencies.

“They are now choosing it over conventional police hotlines when seeking immediate assistance,” it said.

Cardiño’s SAFE program, which stands for Seen, Appreciated, Felt and Extraordinary Service, is aligned with the Philippine National Police’s Focused Agenda, anchored on the vision of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”

SAFE NIR Dial 911 can be reached for life-threatening emergencies, such as crime in progress; violence, serious accidents, fire, and medical emergencies; and when someone’s life or safety is at risk.

Those needing police assistance, especially for situations that require urgent response or need a police officer right away, can just dial 911.”PNA
