Police foil jailbreak

Policemen foiled a plan of some detainees to escape from their cell at Police Station 8 in Bacolod City following a greyhound operation on Saturday, May 14.

Maj. Joery Puerto, Police Station 8 commander, said they discovered that the steel bars at the roof of the detention cell were cut, which would have allowed the inmates to escape.

Puerto said the inmates planned to escape on Friday, May 13, but there was a jailer on duty.

The police were already able to identify the four inmates behind the escape try. They were said to be drug personalities.

Puerto said it is possible that the inmates gave the saw, which was used to cut the steel bars, to a jail visitor because no equipment was recovered in the cell.

The police station has disallowed inmates to receive visitors for now.*
