PNP: Social media posts of missing females not true

Social media posts of three missing females in Negros Occidental are not true, the police said on Friday, August 16.

A Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) statement said “upon our verification these were not reported to our stations, and there were no blotter reports therefore (they) are considered as false”.

Concerned police stations were also directed to proceed to the last known addresses of the alleged missing persons to gather information on their whereabouts, the statement said.

It said Karen Cañete, 23, of EB Magalona, who was reported missing on social media, was found to have voluntarily left her residence to live elsewhere.

Faith, an 18-year-old, who in a social media post was reported as missing on August 12 had returned to her relatives on August 13, the report added.

An alleged missing female in Barangay Ma-ao, Bago City, is with the City Social Welfare Development Office of Bago City and is in contact with her mother, the NOCPPO also said.

NOCPPO assured the public that the police are on alert, are conducting patrols, and have   established police assistance desks near schools.

The public is urged to report any suspicious criminal activities to the nearest police station, it added.*
