Police seized about 1.15 kilograms of suspected shabu worth P7.82 million and arrested a 35-year-old man in a buy-bust operation in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, on Friday morning, Oct. 2.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region identified the suspect only as alias “John,” single, tagged a high-value individual, and a resident of Brgy. Batinguel of the said city.
The operation was conducted at about 11:19 a.m. in Purok Santol, Barangay Balugo, by personnel of the Dumaguete City Police Station’s City Drug Enforcement Unit.
Police said the operation stemmed from information provided by a confidential informant alleging that the suspect had been involved in the distribution of illegal drugs in several barangays in Dumaguete City.
Authorities then conducted surveillance and validation activities to monitor the suspect’s alleged transactions.
The PRO-NIR said investigators also received information that the suspect was allegedly sourcing illegal drugs from Cebu.
Police coordinated with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and arranged a transaction through the confidential informant, which led to the buy-bust operation.
Operatives recovered suspected shabu, buy-bust money and other non-drug evidence during the operation.
Police said additional sachets and a pack containing suspected shabu, along with personal items, were also recovered during a body search following the arrest.
The seized suspected illegal drugs weighed about 1,150 grams and had a standard drug price of P7.82 million, police said.
The suspect was brought to the Dumaguete City Police Station for booking and proper disposition.
PRO-NIR director Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales said the seizure was part of the regional police’s continuing campaign against illegal drugs and emphasized that operations should be based on validated information and carried out in accordance with legal procedures.
He added that the regional police would continue intelligence-driven operations and coordination with partner agencies to disrupt the distribution of illegal drugs in Negros Island Region.*
