A former barangay kagawad was gunned down outside his home in Hda. Cabayao, Brgy. San Pablo, Manapla, Negros Occidental, early Wednesday morning, Sept. 3.
The police identified the victim only as “Pablo,” 54, a resident of the hacienda.
Witnesses told investigators that around 6 a.m., an unidentified man approached the victim’s house, pretending to look for a lost carabao.
The suspect engaged the victim in a brief conversation before suddenly drawing a firearm and shooting him multiple times in the head and body.
The gunman also went inside the victim’s house and threatened his family before fleeing toward a mountainous area.
Recovered from the scene were 10 empty shells and one live round of a .45 caliber pistol.
The Roselyn Jean Pelle Command of the New People’s Army said in a press statement Wednesday evening that a team of red fighters executed Pablo Brillantes.
“Brillantes is responsible for parading Marilyn ‘Ka Mona’ Badayos and three other Red fighters at Hacienda Builder, in Barangay San Pablo on Sept. 30, 2021,” it said.
Brillantes is also an intelligence asset of the 79th Infantry Brigade, the NPA claimed.
A .45 caliber pistol, ammunition and a handheld radio were recovered from Brillantes, the NPA added.*
