NPA claims responsibility for killing Ilog landowner

The Armando Sumayang Jr. Command of the New People’s Army (ASJC-NPA) on Monday, January 30, claimed responsibility for the killing of a landowner in Ilog, Negros Occidental.

Silas Vargas Granada, 65, was shot to death at Sitio Gumayon, Brgy Pinggot, Ilog, Negros Occidental, at 8 p.m. Saturday, January 28, the police reported.

A group of about 30 unidentified armed men with high powered firearms visited the house of the victim and a confrontation occurred. The confrontation became hostile and the armed men shot the victim on the head several times, which resulted to his instantaneous death, the police added.

The police said the NPA had also killed the father of Granada in the past over a land dispute.

Andrea Guerrero, ASJC-NPA spokesperson, alleged that Granada was an intelligence man of the Armed Forces of the Philippines who had taken over the land of the poor in Sitio Tigas, Barangay Pinggot.

The NPA also alleged that Granada’s father had also taken over land in the 1970s.

The NPA confiscated two guns and ammunition from the victim, Guerreo added.*
