NORFA inks partnership with football leagues

The Negros Occidental Regional Football Association bolstered its partnership with various football leagues to streamline efforts towards grassroots sports development and promotions in the province through a Memorandum of Agreement signed Saturday, Nov. 23.

The signed agreement is part of NORFA’s goal in unifying football clubs across Negros Occidental, a press release from the group said.

“Unifying the existing leagues will give opportunity for kids to compete for the Champions League,” Jose Miguel Valmayor, NORFA president, said.

“What we’ve been working on is to discover more talent and soccer stars. We need to identify them cause were going to kick start our Center of Excellence with the Philippine Football Federation,” Valmayor added.

Just like the Union of European Football Associations, NORFA will serve as governing body of soccer for it’s partner-franchisee to include the Bacolod Football League, Victorias Football League, Kabankalan Football League, San Carlos City Football League and Brazilian Jericho Soccer Academy, the press release said.

As part of the deal, tournaments will be sanctioned by NORFA. The association will also provide training for referees, and send them as part of the officiating members during competitions independently held by it’s members.

“As much as possible we want to have more soccer clubs to keep the standards high,” Valmayor stressed. “We want football for the kids to develop and become better individuals and not just players,” he added.

With the recent partnership, better and exciting competitions are expected, he said.

Pocholo Yuvienco, former Negros Occidental SK Federation president who serves as president of San Carlos City Negros Football Club, said he is also looking forward for more soccer competitions in different categories for the Champions League.

“It’s the best opportunity for players to be exposed,” Yuvienco said.

The ceremonial signing of the agreement was joined by the PFF National Men’s Team Coach Norman Fegidero along with officials and representatives of the partner-franchisee and NORFA officials.*
