NONESCOST in Sagay now a state university

The Commission on Higher Education en banc has approved the conversion of the Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology in Sagay City to the State University of Northern Negros.

With this approval, it will make SUNN the first state university in Sagay City with campuses in Escalante City and Calatrava, a press release from Sagay said Tuesday, January 23.

Sagay Mayor Narciso “Narwin” Javelosa Jr. lauded the faculty and staff of SUNN who took care of the rigorous process that started during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also thanked Sagay Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva who started the initiative when he was congressman and and current Rep. Alfredo Marañon III (Neg. Occ., 2nd District) for his fast-tracking the law to create the university.

Javelosa said he welcomes the development and assured his support to improve the quality of education in Sagay.

Cueva said that he was overjoyed with the good news that SUNN is officially a state university.

“We have been determined to make this happen,” he said, adding “We are grateful for those who helped make this possible.”*
