NOCECO rates up for September

The Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative announced a P1.48 per kilowatt-hour increase in its electricity rates for September, from P13.0620/kWh in August to P14.5465/kWh this month.

NOCECO’s residential rate will increase by P1.4845/kWh due to increased transmission and generation charges, a press release from the cooperative said.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has raised ancillary service charges, leading to a P0.6018/kWh increase in transmission charges, it said.

NOCECO said that these charges are essential for maintaining grid stability and reliability.

The press release also said that the generation charge also increased by P0.5688/kWh compared to the previous month, which also contributed to the overall rate increase.

The electric cooperative said that NOCECO is waiting for approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission for their new power supply contract to reduce its reliance on the volatile spot market and potentially mitigate future rate increases.

Negros Electric Power Corporation and Northern Negros Electric Cooperative have yet to release their power rates for September.*
