Central Negros residents will see a slight reprieve in their power bills this month.
Negros Electric and Power Corp. announced on Monday, March 16, that its average residential electricity rate this month is ₱11.4107/kWh, a decrease of ₱0.0335/kWh compared to the February rate of ₱11.4442/kWh.
The price of electricity from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market increased from ₱4.4872/kWh to ₱5.4034/kWh, or by ₱0.9162/kWh. Negros Power said.
The increase was attributed to the 17-day unexpected outage of Palm Concepcion Power Corp., which resulted in a shortage of power supply to the Visayas Grid and increased market prices, especially during peak demand hours.
The rate of Green Core Geothermal Inc. also increased from ₱6.1424/kWh to ₱6.5265/kWh, or an increase of ₱0.3851/kWh, Negros Power said.
This is because the one-year temporary baseload discount provided by the power supplier has expired, it said.
Negros Power said due to these increases in WESM and GCGI, the overall generation charge showed an increase of ₱0.2015/kWh.
The NGCP Power Delivery Service (PDS) charge also increased from ₱282.5288/kW to ₱305.5274/kW, or showed an increase of ₱22.9986/kW.
On the other hand, Ancillary Service charges (including reserve market) decreased from ₱667.35/kW to ₱501.09/kW, or showed a decrease of ₱166.26/kW, Negros Power said.
Due to these changes, the overall transmission charges showed a slight decrease averaging ₱0.2054/kWh for all consumer classes.
Overall, the reduction in transmission and other pass-through charges helped offset the increase in generation cost, driven by higher prices in WESM and adjustment in GCGI, Negros Power said.*
