Negros Occidental Covid positivity rate drops to 6.5% after April surge

COVID-19 positive cases in Negros Occidental that hit an all-time high of 4,039 in April after a sudden surge dropped to 1,748 in July and 144 in August, data from the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital (TLJPH) molecular laboratory in Silay City showed Tuesday, August 10.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said the COVID-19 positivity rate of the TLJPH molecular laboratory tested samples in April was 16.03 percent and in August 6.59 percent.

There was a surge in COVID-19 cases in April that triggered the increase in samples brought to the TLJPH for testing, but the numbers have since declined, he said.

The TLJPH molecular laboratory data showed that positivity rate of samples it tested in January was 1.02 percent, February – .97 percent, March – 3.42 percent, April -16.03 percent, May – 14.60 percent, June – 14.26 percent, July – 11.85 percent and August – 6.59 percent.

That meant the positive cases detected by the TLJPH laboratory in January were 191, February – 163, March – 515, April – 4,039, May – 3,261, June – 2,961, July – 1,748, and August – 144.
Diaz said that efforts to keep COVID-19 cases down in Negros Occidental with the proper tools in place to ensure early detection, isolation and cure has worked.

He also cited the concerted effort of all local government units in the province to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The provincial, city and town health personnel have also been working tirelessly to hasten the vaccination of Negrenses against COVID-19, Diaz added.*
