Close to 100 vehicles joined festive caravans from northern and southern Negros Occidental to Bacolod City Friday afternoon, October 8, to celebrate Vice President Leni Robredo’s announcement that she is running for President in 2022, Edwin Nacionales, and Negros for Leni (N4L) co-convenor, said.

The caravans kicked off from Silay City in the north and Bago City in the south with about 60 vehicles and were joined by more on their way to Bacolod City where they converged at the South Capitol Road.

Participants on board the vehicles, decked in Negros for Leni tarpaulins and pink ribbons and balloons, honked and flashed their headlights to celebrate.

Drumbeaters from La Carlota City wearing pink masks on the back of a truck joined the caravan from Bago City and added to the festive air, Nacionales said.

After Robredo delivered “her emphatic speech Thursday accepting the challenge to run for president, we N4L decided to go out and show our full support and jubilation over her decision to run,” Nacionales said.

“With (the COVID-19) Delta variant lurking in the air, we decided that the safest way to celebrate is to do a caravan. We did not expect that our simple plan would become an instant hit when we posted it on Facebook and other social media platforms. This is very inspiring,” he added.*
