
The Commission on Elections has sent notices of violation to 52 senatorial candidates and party list groups for the illegal posting of campaign materials in Negros Occidental, Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said on Thursday, March 13.
The Comelec has removed 4,570 illegally posted campaign materials of national bets in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City from February 24 to March 8 under its “Oplan Baklas” drive.
The senatorial candidates and party list groups have three days from receipt of the notices to remove their illegal campaign materials or face charges, Ananoria said.
The penalty for such violation is disqualification from running for public office and one to six years imprisonment.
COMELEC Silay sent out the most number of notices at 20, while COMELEC Bacolod removed the highest number of illegally posted campaign materials at – 1,523.
The town and city election officers send the notices of violation to the offices of the senatorial candidates, while the notices to party list groups are sent out by the Comelec regional office, he said
Local candidates will be required to comply with the Comelec rules on campaign materials starting March 28, when the campaign period for them begins.*
