Negros bids to host IFOAM organic world congress 2027

Negros Occidental has entered its bid to host the IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) Organic World Congress 2027, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said.

Lacson was the guest of honor at the opening of the 6th Organic Asia Congress in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte, on Tuesday, June 6.

The event was organized by IFOAM Asia and the Municipal Government of Kauswagan.

It is one of the biggest international events for sustainable farming and organic agriculture, attended by experts and advocates of organic agriculture in the world, which aims to continue to discuss major trends and activities in the promotion of organic food production and organic agriculture not only in the Philippines but throughout the world.

Lacson said that as a primarily agricultural province and as the Sugar Bowl of the Philippines, developing agriculture and uplifting the lives of farmers are among the main and important thrusts of the present administration in the province of Negros Occidental.

“By hosting the IFOAM Organic World Congress, we can showcase our achievements, share our knowledge, and learn from others who are equally passionate about organic farming, inspire others and encourage the adoption of organic practices worldwide,” he said.

He also said that Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez and the district representatives of the province have signified their support for the bid.

The Congress will serve as a catalyst for strengthening the organic agriculture sector and provide a platform for networking, business opportunities, and forging partnerships among stakeholders, Lacson said.

Lacson received a Plaque of Recognition from IFOAM for Negros Occidental’s promotion of sustainable organic agriculture.

The 6th Organic Asia Congress, which also holds trade and exhibits will run until June 10, at the Kauswagan International Organic Convention Center in Lanao del Norte.*
