Negros Occidental has generated P7.925 billion in tourist receipts as average visitor arrivals increased by 27.25 percent in 2024, the Provincial Tourism Division said Thursday, April 10.

Based on the reports submitted by city and municipal tourism offices, the province welcomed 3.236 million excursionists or same-day visitors from January to December last year.

These comprised 3.173 million domestic guests and 63,164 foreign visitors.

Negros Occidental also hosted 883,514 overnight tourists, including 3,387 foreign visitors and 860,127 domestic travelers.

“These figures reflect the dedication of the local government units, tourism partners and stakeholders, partner-agencies, and the provincial government in supporting and promoting our local tourism industry,” the Provincial Tourism Division said in a statement.

In last month’s first quarter meeting of tourism officers, province tourism head Cheryl Decena led the discussions on reviewing past accomplishments, updating ongoing tourism initiatives, and planning strategies for the year ahead.

For 2025, capacity-building trainings, scheduled activities and events, and cultural mapping updates were also presented.

According to the Provincial Tourism Division, the meeting underscored the commitment of the Negros Occidental tourism sector in driving sustainable growth, promoting local culture, and enhancing visitor experiences.

“With a strong lineup of programs and collaborative efforts, the province is set to further establish itself as a premier destination in the region,” it said.*PNA
