Negros Occidental, Bacolod City and 17 other towns and cities received Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) awards from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) at rites held at the Manila Hotel on Monday, Dec .9
San Carlos City received an SGLG Award for the eighth consecutive year making it the only city in the Visayas to achieve such a feat.
“Receiving the Seal of Good Local Governance for the eighth consecutive year felt so much pride. Being the only city in whole Visayan region to achieve this milestone shows what we can accomplish through hard work and unity,” Mayor Renato Gustilo said in a Facebook post.

Gov. Eugenio Lacson received the SGLG award of the Negros Occidental provincial government, while Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez received the award of Bacolod City.

The other Negros Occidental cities that receive SGLG awards were Bago, Cadiz, Escalante, Himamaylan, La Carlota, Sagay, San Carlos, Silay, Sipalay, Talisay and Victorias.
The six towns that received SGLG awards are EB Magalona, Hinigaran, Ilog, Isabela, La Castellana and Manapla.
All awardees will receive an SGLG marker and incentive funds to finance local development initiatives that can further national goals and strategic thrusts.
The SGLG is an initiative of the Department of the Interior and Local Government that serves as a hallmark of good governance and recognizes LGUs that promote integrity and efficiency in public service delivery.

The award is given to towns, cities and provinces that show exceptional performance in good financial housekeeping, disaster preparedness, social protection for the basic sector, business-friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, law and order and public safety, the DILG said.
This year’s assessment has been upgraded to include more outcome-based criteria to distinguish and incentivize good performance that meets the demands of public accountability and reform, the DILG added.*
