The heavy downpour and widespread flooding that swept through southern Negros Occidental last week have inflicted a heavy toll on the province’s agriculture, with damages now exceeding P55 million.
The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) released the updated figures on Friday, July 25.
The rice industry still bore the brunt of the devastation with P37.4 million in losses affecting 1,963 farmers tilling 1,622 hectares.
Corn farmers also faced significant setbacks, with damages estimated at P13.8 million. This affected 331 farmers tilling 202 hectares of corn fields.
High-value crops losses reached P2.8 million, affecting 65 farmers cultivating 21 hectares of land.
Damage to livestock and poultry remained at P865,400.*
