A murder case has been filed against two suspects in connection with the killing of a 33-year-old woman whose body was found inside a sack at Hacienda Sta. Catalina in Brgy. Dos Hermanas, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region said the case was formally filed before the Talisay City Prosecutor’s Office at around 6:50 p.m. on Oct. 15.
The victim, identified by police only as alias “Genalyn,” was discovered inside a sack on the evening of Oct. 13.
She was a resident of Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, and was temporarily staying at a game farm in Talisay where she worked as a laundry worker.
Police earlier said two farmworkers, aged 34 and 44, admitted involvement in the killing following questioning by investigators.
One of the suspects was among those who initially reported the discovery of the body, but investigators later became suspicious of their statements and subjected them to further questioning.
PRO-NIR director Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales earlier said the suspects allegedly approached the victim to borrow money before one of them struck her with a piece of wood.
A piece of hardwood believed to have been used in the killing was recovered and subjected to forensic examination.
Investigators also earlier said they were verifying an allegation that the victim had been sexually assaulted before her body was tied, placed inside a sack and dumped in the area where it was later found.
Police said Scene of the Crime Operatives processed both the location where the body was recovered and the area inside the game farm where the killing allegedly occurred.
The victim’s partner earlier told police that he last saw her on Oct. 8 when she left for work.
Reales said authorities would continue pursuing the case through the proper legal process while ensuring that evidence is handled appropriately and the rights of all parties are respected.*
