Motorcycle driver, teen die in Himamaylan accident

A driver and his minor companion died when their motorcycle hit a truck parked on the side of the highway in Sitio Buhian, Brgy. To-oy, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, Monday night, Dec. 16.

The fatalities were the 21-year-old driver from Brgy. Buenavista, and his passenger, a 17-year-old male from Brgy. To-oy, Lt. Arturo Margallo Jr., Himamaylan deputy police chief, told DIGICAST NEGROS on Tuesday.

Margallo said while the truck driver was resting, he heard the motorcycle hit his vehicle, which caused severe injuries to the victims.

The victims were brought to a hospital and were declared dead on arrival.

Margallo said that the owner of the truck and the families of the victims have reached an initial settlement.

The families will not file a case against the driver as the owner of the truck agreed to help with the burial expenses of the victims, he added.

The driver was released from police custody after an 18-hour reglementary period lapsed.*
