Presumptive president Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has promised to support Bacolod City’s housing program, the establishment of the Negros Island Region and the construction of the Panay-Guimaras-Negros (PGN) Bridge, Bacolod mayor-elect Alfredo “Albee” Benitez said Saturday, June 18.
Benitez, who met with Marcos recently, said they discussed plans and strategies on how to solve the housing problem in the country.
Benitez, during his term as congressman of the third district of Negros Occidental, authored the bill that led to the creation of the Department of Housing.
The Negros Island Region is acceptable to Marcos, Benitez also said.
Benitez said he will ask Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Negros Oriental Gov-elect Henry Teves to write a formal letter to the president on their request for the creation of the NIR.
He also discussed the creation of the NIR with incoming Department of the Interior and Local Government secretary Benhur Abalos who is also okay with it, Benitez said.
Marcos also told him that he will ensure the construction of the PGN Bridge during his term, Benitez said.
A Marcos thanksgiving gathering for local government officials attended by his wife Liza Araneta Marcos was held at the Yanson resthouse in Talisay City on Thursday, June 16, Himamaylan City Mayor Rogelio Tongson said.
He said some officials from Negros, Cebu and Iloilo were at the affair.
Also at the party were Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, Benitez and several other Negros Occidental mayors, Tongson said.
Tongson, Team BBM 2022 Region 6 chairman, took his oath as reelected mayor of Himamaylan City before Davao Mayor Sara Deterte on Saturday.
He also attended Duterte’s oath taking as vice president in Davao City on Sunday.*
