A 56-year-old laborer was hacked to death by a neighbor in Purok 3, Brgy. Masaling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, on Saturday morning, Nov. 29.
Police identified the suspect as alias “Alfred,” 45, a tricycle driver and resident of Brgy Masaling.
The victim was at a store when the suspect suddenly approached him from behind carrying a bolo, the police said.
Witnesses told police the suspect then hacked the victim multiple times without warning, hitting different parts of his body.
The attack ended only when the suspect stopped and surrendered to a nearby barangay employee who witnessed the disturbance.
Responders brought the victim to the Cauayan District Hospital where he was declared dead.
The police said the victim and the suspect had long-standing personal grudges, which may have triggered the fatal assault.
The suspect is now detained at the Cauayan Police Station.*
