A woman and her three-year-old daughter were killed while three other family members were injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire inside their house in Sipalay City on Wednesday evening, April 22.
Police said “Jona,” 27, and her daughter “Ariela,” 3, died from gunshot wounds sustained during the attack in Purok Skid 8, Brgy. Nabulao.
Also injured were “Honey,” 9, also Jona’s child, who suffered gunshot wounds to the shoulder and leg, “Benny,” 62, Jona’s mother, who was hit in the hand, and alias “Remy,” 46, a relative who sustained a gunshot wound to the hand.
Sipalay City police investigation showed that the victims were inside their residence at around 6:30 p.m. when two unidentified male suspects entered and opened fire using a long firearm.
The suspects fled toward a mountainous area after the shooting.
Authorities recovered 36 empty shells of a 5.56 caliber firearm from the scene.
The injured victims were rushed to a hospital for treatment, while the fatalities were declared dead due to gunshot wounds.
Police have launched a hot pursuit operation to identify and arrest the suspects.*
