The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is bringing its services closer to the people with the opening of more offices in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, LTO Bacolod chief Reuben Tampos said Thursday, June 9.

The aim is to have an LTO office in every legislative district of Negros Occidental and to decongest their main office in Bacolod, he said.

Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante, LTO chief, will be in Negros Occidental on Friday for the inauguration of the new P6 million LTO building in San Carlos City, and for the ceremonial opening of their office for license renewal at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod City, Tampos said.

The LTO office at a new building in EB Magalona is also expected to open next month, he added.

There are also LTO offices in Cadiz City in the 2nd District, Himamaylan City in the 5th District and in Sipalay City in the 6th District.

The LTO office in Pontevedra in the 4th District will be transferred to La Carlota City where Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer has provided a new building, Tampos said.

Tampos said the slow LTO vehicle registration has been caused by their having migrated to a new program with a new IT provider.

The previous IT provider will not provide data to the new provider hired by their national office that is why they have had to resort to manual encoding and scanning since 2021, he said.

They are in a transition period after which LTO clients can go into online cashless transactions with the LTO that will be easier and faster, Tampos added.*
