LTO lifts validity extension, sets new renewal deadlines for motorists

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has lifted the validity extension for vehicle registrations, driver’s licenses, permits, and medical certificates affected by disruptions in its Land Transportation Management System (LTMS), setting new renewal deadlines for motorists.

In a memorandum circular dated Oct. 26, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao ordered the lifting of the extension after most technical issues affecting the LTMS had been substantially resolved.

The earlier extension, issued on July 29, allowed motorists additional time to complete transactions without incurring penalties following system downtime and slowdowns nationwide.

Under the new schedule, registrations, licenses, student permits, and medical certificates that expired in July and August 2026 may be renewed from Nov. 3 to Dec. 29, 2026.

Documents that expired in September 2026 may be renewed from Dec. 1, 2026, to Jan. 29, 2027.

Meanwhile, those that expired in October 2026 have a renewal window from Jan. 4 to Feb. 26, 2027.

The LTO said motorists who complete their renewals within the prescribed grace periods will not incur additional charges or penalties.

However, transactions processed beyond the specified deadlines will be subject to applicable penalties and charges under existing regulations.

For driver’s and conductor’s licenses, student permits, and medical certificates expiring beginning November 2026, regular validity periods and renewal schedules will apply.

The LTO-Negros Island Region advised affected motorists to check their documents’ expiration dates and complete their renewals within the designated periods to avoid penalties.*
