LGUs vie for goals in Gov. Cup Football Provincial Championship qualifying

Abanse Negrense’s Governor’s Cup Football Provincial Championship continued its qualifying round over the weekend. Pontevedra and Sagay City hosted the tournament on Oct. 8 and 9, respectively.

Local football fans in the province of Negros Occidental witnessed the South Central Districts Qualifying on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Pontevedra. Dolphins FC beat the Trinity Christian School FC with a score of 14-0 in the 12-under (Born 2010) age category.

Pontevedra defeated Tumandok FC with a score of 5-1 under the same category. For 17-under (Born 2005) age group, Bago City emerged victorious against Pontevedra in a score of 7-1.

For the Northern District Qualifying on Sunday, Oct. 9, San Carlos City crushed Club de los Hermanos de Futbol FC (CHFC) of Escalante City with a score of 12-0 in the 12-under (Born 2010) age category. Sagay City and Cadiz City were also victorious after beating the City of Victorias and Escalante City with scores of 5-1 and 3-1, respectively.

In the 17-under (Born 2005) age bracket, Sagay City and CHFC both scored three goals against the cities of Escalante and Victorias, respectively.

Meanwhile, Abanse Negrenses’s Governor’s Cup Football Provincial Championship followed the 9-a-side with offside format for the 12-under (Born 2010) age category and 11-a-side with offside for the 17-under (Born 2005) age group.

Organized by the Provincial Sports Office (PSO), under the leadership of Mr. Anthony Carlo Agustin, the tournament is part of the Abanse Negrense grassroots sports development program initiated by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson. Through this project, Gov. Lacson hopes to find new talents in sports that could potentially represent the province in regional, national and international competitions in the future. (PR)
