Kanlaon Volcano continued to degas and spew gray ash on Friday, Nov. 8, Mari-Andylene Quintia, a Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology volcanologist, said.

Quintia said from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday the volcano puffed out gray ash five times that drifted in the northwest direction towards Bago City and Murcia.

It also spewed gray ash at 3:51 p.m. Friday.

There were no detectable seismic of infrasound signals recorded during the ashing events on Friday, Quintia said.

Light ash fall was reported at Sitio Guintubdan, Brgy. Ara-al, La Carlota City.

There were 24 volcanic earthquakes and 7,378 tons of sulfur dioxide emitted by Kanlaon from 12 a.m. Thursday to 12 a.m. Friday, Phivolcs reported.

Phivolcs also recorded three ashing events on Thursday, Quintia said.

The ash fell in Barangay Yubo, La Carlota, and at the Rafael Salas Park and Nature Center in Bago City on Thursday, Quintia said.

Phivolcs also received reports of sulfuric odor in barangays Haguimit, San Miguel and La Granja in La Carlota City and Barangay Ilijan, Bago City, Thursday, she said.

La Carlota Mayor Rex Jalandoon said residents in areas with sulfuric odor have been advised to wear masks.*
