Javi commends BINI for historic Coachella 2026 performance

Rep. Javier Miguel “Javi”  Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District),  House Special Committee on Creative Industries chair, has filed House Resolution No. 930, commending and congratulating BINI for making history as the first Filipino pop group to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2026.

“Their performances weren’t just a win for the fans, it was a massive milestone for our creative industries and a masterclass in bringing OPM to the global stage,” Benitez wrote on his official Facebook page.

The resolution underscores the significance of BINI’s achievement in promoting Filipino talent and culture globally, in line with the State’s mandate to foster and develop a dynamic national culture, a press release from the office of Benitez said.

BINI performed on April 10 and 17,  at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, delivering a 45-minute set at the Mojave stage. Their performance featured songs such as “Pantropiko,” “Karera,” and “Salamin, Salamin,” as well as the debut of their single “Blush.”

The legislative measure recognizes the group’s contribution to the growth of Pinoy Pop (P-pop) as a globally competitive subgenre of Original Pilipino Music (OPM), helping expand the international reach of the Philippine creative industries.

It also emphasizes that while the Philippines has long been known as an importer of music, BINI’s performance on the global stage marks a turning point, one that inspires more Filipino artists to export OPM and showcase homegrown talent to the world.

Benitez said  they are currently considering and planning to include “music” explicitly as a commercial industry under the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act (PCIDA), through a proposed amendment, underscoring the growing economic potential of the sector.

It also highlights that participation in Coachella, one of the world’s most influential music festivals, signifies global recognition and cultural influence, marking a major milestone for any artist.

House Resolution No. 930 seeks to formally commend BINI for their historic and groundbreaking performance and to recognize their role in elevating Filipino artistry on the global stage.*PR
