Victorias Mayor Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez, who is running for congressman of the 3rd District of Negros Occidental, said on Sunday that for the 2025 elections he will take a more responsible approach.
Benitez said he will not be putting up his tarps before the official campaign period, and even then, only place them in designated common poster areas.
He also won’t be paying for any celebrity or influencer endorsements, he said.
“Our work and plans should speak for themselves,” Benitez said.
He called on fellow candidates, especially in the 3rd District of Negros Occidental, to avoid putting campaign tarps on trees.
“Let’s show we care about the environment while we campaign,” he said.
Benitez said after the 2022 election he asked Garments Company to repurpose campaign tarps into reusable bags so they wouldn’t go to waste.
“These small efforts matter, and I believe we can all do better this time. Let’s campaign responsibly”, he said.*
