Himamaylan resident drowns saving relative

A 28-year-old man drowned in the sea while saving a relative in Sitio Batang, Brgy. Talaban, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, during All Saints’ Day on Friday, Nov. 1.

The body of Joey Aguring of Barangay Mahalang, Himamaylan, was recovered after almost 30 minutes of search and rescue operations, the Coast Guard Sub-Station Himamaylan reported.

The victim rescued his relative who was walking along a rocky section of a resort and accidentally slipped and fell into the water, the police reported.

The victim immediately swam towards his relative and pushed her towards the shore, but he was carried away by the strong current.

The Philippine Coast Guard and residents retrieved the victim’s body but he was declared on arrival at the Valeriano Gatuslao Memorial District Hospital.*
