
Heavy rain in Negros Occidental affected 2,849 individuals , and caused 758 flood victims to evacuate, in two cities and two towns in Negros Occidental on Sunday and Monday, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported.
The rain was brought on by a Low Pressure Area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon that led to the cancellation of classes and government work in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, on Monday.
Affected individuals in Kabankalan City were 2,913, La Carlota City – 389, Pontevedra – 75 and La Castellana – 346, the PDRRMC reported.
Those who evacuated in Kabankaan City were 145, La Carlota City, 178, Pontevedra – 75 and La Castellana 246.
A landslide was also reported in Barangay Linao, Kabankalan City, on Sunday affecting one family.
The rains also rendered road sections in Barangay Biak-na-Bato in La Castellana, and Barangays Mailum and Binubuhan in Bago City impassable on Sunday.*
