Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson on Wednesday, January 17, gave his full support to Liga ng mga Barangay – Negros Occidental president Richard Julius Sablan in his bid for the presidency of the league’s Western Visayas chapter, Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez said.

Benitez, president of the Negros Association of Chief Executives, accompanied Sablan who is from Barangay 2, Victorias City, in seeking the endorsement of the Negros Occidental governor.

As provincial Liga ng mga Barangay president, Sablan sits as ex-officio officer on the Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Sablan said the election of the league’s regional officers is expected next month. All the league provincial president’s of Region 6 are expected to join, he said.

Benitez said the Negros ACE fully supports Sablan and if he is elected the league’s regional head it will be the first time ever for Negros Occidental.

Benitez said he will be accompanying Sablan to the different provinces of Western Visayas this week to meet with their governors, and their first stop will be Aklan on Thursday.

“We are looking to be unopposed so that we can have a peaceful election,” Benitez said, adding that so far no other contenders have surfaced.*
