Focus crimes in NIR down 12.23 percent

Focus crime incidents in the Negros Island Region dropped by 12.23 percent following the implementation of the Philippine National Police’s Safer Cities Initiative, the Police Regional Office-NIR said.

Based on regional crime trend monitoring from April 6 to May 6, PRO-NIR recorded 79 focus crime incidents this year, lower than the 90 cases recorded during the same period in 2025.

Police said homicide went down by one incident, rape by 14 incidents, and theft by 10 incidents.

PRO-NIR attributed the decline to intensified police visibility, faster response to incidents, strengthened intelligence monitoring, and focused operations in identified crime hotspots.

As part of the Safer Cities Initiative, PRO-NIR also reported 25,937 city ordinance enforcement operations across the region.

These included 4,072 operations against drinking and smoking in public places, 1,097 against persons roaming shirtless, and 37 against public urination, littering, and indiscriminate dumping of garbage.

Police also reported 951 operations against the use of karaoke systems beyond prescribed hours, 3,331 against minors violating curfew ordinances, and 1,662 against illegal structures and obstructions under road clearing efforts.

PRO-NIR said it will continue to strengthen police visibility, personnel deployment, and coordination with communities and local government units to sustain the gains under the Safer Cities Initiative.*
