Fire damages Tay Tung school building, 1 injured

A man was injured after a fire broke out and damaged a building inside the Bacolod Tay Tung High School campus in Bacolod City on Monday morning, July 21.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Bacolod raised the first alarm at around 9:35 a.m. after flames engulfed the fourth floor of the school’s kindergarten building.

According to the school’s official statement, the fire was caused by a short circuit in the supply line connected to their solar panels.

FO2 Anthony Val Isansa, fire investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection- Bacolod, said that Nicholas Moncatar Jr., 43, sustained a laceration on his right elbow after breaking the glass box of a fire extinguisher while trying to help contain the fire.

He was immediately treated by BFP’s Emergency Medical Services.

The school statement said all pupils, teachers, and staff were safely evacuated to the covered courts in accordance with emergency protocols.

No students or teaching personnel were harmed.

The fire was declared under control by 10:15 a.m., and initial damage was estimated at P76,800.

The BFP, along with the school administration, is now conducting further investigation and safety assessments of all electrical systems.

Tay Tung officials also thanked the BFP, the Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade, and the Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade for their swift response, which helped prevent further damage and ensured everyone’s safety.
