Don’t wait for healthcare to collapse, PAMET urges

“Let us not wait for our healthcare system to collapse because we have no more healthcare workers left standing.”

That was the call of the officers and members of the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists Inc. (PAMET)-Negros Occidental Chapter who issued an urgent appeal Tuesday, January 24, for everyone to be part of the solution to stopping the spread of Covid-19.

The country is facing another wave of COVID-19 with the threat of a dominant Omicron variant fast spreading across the region and everyone should be responsible for their actions to help curb the pandemic, they said in an open letter.

They said they are saddened by the seemingly rampant disregard of many Negrenses and Bacolodnons in obeying the basic health protocols.

“We hope that our government shall never tire in continuing their massive public dissemination and policing activities to apprehend violators,” they said,

They appealed to public officials to implement stronger restrictions and stricter implementations of even just the basic health protocols and guidelines set by the Department of Health and their Inter-Agency Task Force/ Emergency Operations Center agencies.

They also urged everyone to be vigilant and responsible for their actions, to get vaccinated, and for the fully vaccinated to continue wearing face masks, especially in public places and in public transport to avoid infecting others.

“For the sake of our modern day heroes, we medical technologists, and our other allied healthcare workers, are in need of your cooperation and full support,” they said.

The PAMET-Negros Occidental Chapter is headed by April Joy de la Rama – president, Ma. Sylvia Azurin – vice president, Ma Lovella Benedicto – secretary, Liza Santillan – treasurer, Allan Benjamin – auditor, Andrew Altarejos – public relations officer, and directors Ma. Therese Garsuta, Gemma de los Reyes, and Ma. Cristina Velez with Maruja Japzon – regional director for Visayas.*
