The Department of Health is helping boost the COVID-19 vaccination drives in 18 local government units in Negros Occidental that have not hit 50 percent of their fully vaccinated individuals target, Dr. Helen Tobias, DOH 6 assistant regional director, said Friday.

Tobias said she visited 13 of the 18 LGUs this week to see how the DOH can help ramp up their vaccination drives.

Her team visited Hinigaran, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, Isabela, Himamaylan City, Kabankalan City, Hinoba-an, Sipalay City, Don Salvador Benedicto, Calatrava, Toboso, San Carlos City and Bago City, she said.

“The reason why we went around is just to help them ramp up their vaccination coverage,” she said, adding that they want to stress the importance of the inoculation drive, especially with the Omicron variant threat.

The DOH Western Visayas will help them with additional vaccinators, encoders and technical assistance, she said.

The DOH is providing Negros Occidental with 50 additional vaccinator and 31 encoders, she said.

She noted that Negros Occidental, which has 31 LGUs, has a much larger population than other provinces in Western Visayas.*
