More than 30 landslides at Kanlaon Volcano and floods triggered by heavy rain washed down deadly trees and rocks during Typhoon “Tino”, a Department of Environment and Natural Resources Negros Island Region official said on Tuesday.

Previous earthquakes loosened the soil in the Kanlaon area, DENR Negros Island Region Executive Director Charlie Fabre also said on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

The 400 mm of rain in two to three hours caused the landslides, he also said.

Despite the allegations of illegal logging, Fabre said they did not find any trees that were cut down, they were uprooted.

As of November 13, Mt Kanlaon National Park personnel inventoried 12,636 board feet of washed down trees in the Bagacay Creek in Brgy Biaknabato, La Castellana, alone.*
