
A 4-year old boy who was supposed to turn a year older this weekend, was confirmed to have died of dengue, bringing the total number of dengue related deaths to five in Bacolod City.
In the latest report furnished to Digicast Negros, the boy who hails from Barangay Villamonte exhibited symptoms of dengue last August 10. For four days, the patient exhibited on-and-off fever, associated with abdominal pain and vomiting.
Persistent symptoms brought the patient in for consultation and advised immediate admission for severe dengue last August 14. However, the following day, the boy expired and immediate cause of death was listed as Dengue Shock Syndrome. Subsequent tests results that came out recently confirmed that the patient was positive of dengue. He would have turned 5 this August 31.
Last month, a 5-year old boy from Barangay Vista Alegre and a 6-year old girl from Barangay Handumanan were also confirmed to have died of dengue.
The City Health Office reported that for this year, Bacolod has a total of 743 dengue cases with five deaths.
Majority are pediatric cases totalling 519, of which more than half, or 305 cases have afflicted children aged 1-10 years old.
Barangay Mansilingan has the most number of dengue cases reported at 78 followed by Barangay Taculing with 61 cases and Barangay Tangub with 48 cases.
Other barangays listed in the top 10 areas with dengue cases are Estefania, Vista Alegre, Alijis, Villamonte, Mandalagan, Sum-ag and Barangay 1.
