Roel Ragay Degamo took his oath of office as governor of Negros Oriental before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at Malacañan Palace on Wednesday, October 5.

Degamo, in a post on his Facebook page, said he is the legitimate governor of Negros Oriental.

Pryde Henry Teves on Wednesday had not stepped down as governor of Negros Oriental.

Teves told Director Leocadio Trovela of the Department of the Interior and Local Government 7 on Tuesday night that he will remain governor until the Supreme Court rules on his petition contesting the nullification of his proclamation and seeking a Temporary Restraining Order.

The Commission on Elections proclaimed Degamo governor of Negros Oriental on Monday, and nullified the May proclamation of Teves.

But Teves, at a press conference at the Capitol in Dumaguete City Wednesday, said “at this moment, I am your governor. There is no order yet that I am uninstalled or unseated (from my current position).”

He said Trovela did not have an order to remove him from office.

Teves said he will respect whatever the Supreme Court’s ruling will be, which is expected on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

Meanwhile, he was continuing to carry out his duties as governor, Teves said.*
