COVID cases in Negros hit double digits again

COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental hit 30 on Thursday, May 26, after the daily figures had dropped to single digits and zero starting in April.

Talisay and Bago cities have five active COVID-19 cases each, Victorias City – four, Binalbagan, EB Magalona, Manapla, Pulupandan – two each, and Cadiz City, Calatrava, Escalante City, Isabela, La Carlota City, La Castellana, Murcia, and Silay City – one each, the Provincial Incident Management Team reported.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, Provincial Health Officer, was conducting an investigation on the rise in numbers and wants a retest to be conducted on those who tested positive.

Health authorities have been saying that cases could go up two weeks after the campaign period and Election Day, Lacson noted.

Lacson said he hopes the new numbers are not an indication that the COVID-19 cases will be rising.

While the provincial government is conducting stepped up vaccination days next month he does not think they will hit their 100 percent target population by the end of June, Lacson said.

Tumimbang said they aim to vaccinate 666,363 residents against COVID-19 in June to hit 100 percent of Negros Occidental’s target population.

Negros Occidental has so far vaccinated 1,331,410 residents against COVID-19 or 63.45 percent of its target population.

Bacolod City’s new COVID-19 cases on Thursday were 10, the Department of Health reported.*
