COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental are on the rise again.

And there was also one new COVID-19 death in Bacolod Wednesday, March 17, City Administrator Em Ang said.

The fatality was a 40-year-old housewife of Barangay Singcang-Airport, said Ang, who is also Bacolod City Emergency Operations Center executive director.

The Department of Health reported 25 new COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City, and 19 in Negros Occidental today, from previous single-digit figures.

Those hit by COVID-19 in Bacolod City are seven Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APORs), 17 local residents, and one Locally Stranded Individual (LSI), the DOH report said.

In Negros Occidental, seven were local residents, 11 LSIs and one Returning Overseas Filipino, the DOH added.

There has been a sudden increase in COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City, there were nine on Tuesday and 25 Wednesday, Ang said.

“It should concern all of us because coming from an average of two cases a day since February, all of a sudden it was nine and 25,” she said.

Out of the close contacts of these people who will be tested, more COVID-19 positive cases are expected, Ang said.

“We are not likely to go back to zero COVID-19 cases in the next few days,” she said.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has directed aggressive contact tracing and to closely monitor the cases, Ang said.

People should keep their masks and face fields on, and should not engage in mass activities or gather in a crowd, she said.

“We discourage social mixing and mass gatherings while we have no vaccines yet,” she said.

Ang said the EOC continues to get letters from people requesting permission to hold events, which is not recommended at this time.

“Let us do our tasks remotely for now,” Ang said.

“We just have to wait a few months to be vaccinated and then we will be free to gather again,” she said.

Bacolod City has had 5,881 COVID-19 cases, 5,614 recoveries, 186 deaths, and has 81 active cases.*
