Cops nab AWOL soldier, seize P346,800 in shabu

A Philippine Army soldier listed as absent without official leave (AWOL) was arrested in Bacolod City after P346,800 worth of suspected shabu was seized from him in a buy-bust operation carried out by Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) cops on Friday, Sept. 19.

The suspect, identified as “Jiljil,” 44, a resident of Sipalay City and temporarily staying in Bacolod, was caught at Bangga Akina, Brgy. Tangub.

Police Station 8 operatives said he was apprehended after handing over a sachet of suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer.

Upon his arrest, authorities recovered 14 more sachets of suspected shabu, a coin pouch, a cellphone, and buy-bust money.

The seized drugs weighed about 51 grams.

The suspect is now detained at Police Station 8 and will face charges for violation of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).

PRO-NIR, in a statement, underscored that the arrest reflects its intensified campaign against illegal drugs.

Regional Director BGen. Arnold Thomas Ibay said the police remain resolute in pursuing drug suspects across Negros and Siquijor, stressing that those involved in the illegal drug trade will be “relentlessly pursued and held accountable.”*
