The Coast Guard District Southern Visayas heightened its readiness and activated its Deployable Response Group on Wednesday, Feb. 4, in preparation for the possible effects of Tropical Storm “Basyang” in the Visayas.
The Philippine Coast Guard suspended sea travel to and from Negros Occidental following its being placed under Signal No. 1 by the state weather bureau at 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The Coast Guard said its stations and substations across the region have placed response teams on standby for immediate deployment to assist coastal communities and respond to emergencies brought by adverse weather conditions.
Authorities said all response units are equipped with essential gear and equipment to support rescue, relief, and maritime safety operations if needed.
The Coast Guard also advised the public, particularly those in coastal and island communities, to remain prepared and stay alert as the weather system approaches.
Residents were urged to immediately coordinate with Coast Guard units in their area for emergency assistance as monitoring and response operations continue.*
