The cleansing of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative member-consumers’ voters list for its joint venture agreement (JVA) plebiscite will end on Sunday, CENECO acting general manager Arnel Lapore said Tuesday, July 25.

The cleansing is being conducted by CENECO and the National Electrification Administration.

The consumer account information updating activity is being conducted at the 3rd Floor of Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod City from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all CENECO offices in Bacolod, Silay, Talisay, Bago and Murcia.

Lapore is urging CENECO consumers to make the necessary changes if their CENECO accounts are still under the name of a deceased individual or a person who has transferred, so they can vote for or against the CENECO-Primelectric Holdings Inc. JVA.

The plebiscite dates will be set by NEA, he said.

He reiterated that the JVA will modernize and improve services to consumers in the CENECO service area.

The modernization of power services is needed to meet the growing needs of Bacolod City to boost its economic growth, he said.

Lapore and Roel Castro, MORE Power president and chief executive officer, met with former Negros Occidental governor Rafael Coscolluela, provincial consultant for energy and environment concerns, to discuss the JVA on Tuesday.

“We had a candid exchange of views. I reiterated the need for MORE/Prime/Ceneco to provide answers to our many questions, and for them to engage in genuine dialog with the unconvinced. They will be back, “ Coscolluela said.

Castro said he met with Coscolluela as there are concerns that have to be cleared up.

“We took it upon ourselves to come so we would know the issues instead of hearing about them from third parties,” he said.

Castro said he is thankful for the meeting because there were a number of things that were clarified “although I would say it’s not substantive yet”.

They will provide Coscolluela with the information and data he needs, Castro said.

“My impression is that he is saying he not against the JVA per se, he wants to know more about the JVA before he could really say if he is not against it”, Castro added.

His impression is that Coscolluela is open minded, he wants to know more about the content of the JVA and how it will be implemented, Castro said.*
